About Me.

"I wonder if there's a single place in the whole world that's never had a story. I bet not. I just about guarantee you there's no places like that in America. Every little square of it, every place you stomp your foot, that's where something happened. Something wild, maybe something nobody knows about, but something. You can fall out of the sky and right into some forgotten storybook.

You run and run and run and you keep turning pages and none of them are empty. They're all full of stories."

— Jon Bois, 17776: What football will look like in the future

I’ve always wanted an excuse to share that quote. I don’t think there’s a better way to summarize my experience as a journalist. Every time I write a story, I’m just sharing someone else’s story with the world. I’m eternally grateful for the people who trust me to share their stories, to use the right words, and to do it justice.

When I started as a journalist my sophomore year of high school, I didn’t know if I wanted to continue. But there were two stories I wrote that made me stick around.

The first was a story about a star track athlete who was setting state records and competing at national competitions. She seemed “perfect” to everyone, and I wasn’t sure what to expect when I sat down with her. But what I got was a story about how, a few minutes before she set a state record in hurdles, she was throwing up in the trash cans because she couldn’t control her nerves and thought she’d never be good enough. It was the exact opposite of what people expected, and that’s what made it special.

The second was a feature on two D1-bound seniors who suffered season-ending injuries. When you watch sports on TV and a player gets injured, you don’t see the recovery—they’re just gone. But I sat in our journalism room with these two for about an hour each as they shared their recovery—how it physically, mentally, and emotionally changed them, and all the things you wouldn’t expect.

Those people—and so, so many more—trusted me to share their stories with the world, and I’m excited to continue to do just that.
